Common endemic shrub with flat stiff leaves 0.5 to 1 inch long having a shiny surface and toothed margins.  Occurs in open disturbed montane areas & lava flows.   Fruit eaten raw or jellied.  Kauai to Hawaii Island, but only common on Maui & Hawaii.  This is the most common of several variable forms.
