PALOLO WORM

These worms remain hidden in the reef, releasing specialized body parts containing gametes called epitokes during certain summer nights.  Many South Pacific islands (excluding Hawaii) experience mass spawning events where villagers collect epitokes at the surface attracted by bright light.  Epitokes are highly nutritious and tasty raw or cooked.  Attains at least 5 inches.  Hawaii & the Indo-Pacific.
