 GLASS ANEMONE

Abundant in tidepools, holes, and under rocks in shallow water.  Color is variable.  Often found in clusters.  Can be invasive in aquaria.  Hawaii, Tropical Pacific & Eastern Pacific.

SWIMMING ANEMONE

Uncommon on sand or seaweed in shallow water.  Able to detach itself from the substrate and swim using the tentacles.  Attains diameter of 6 inches but usually less.  Hawaii & the Indo-Pacific.

MANN'S ANEMONE

Uncommon in dark holes in the intertidal zone exposed to wave action.  Attains diameter of 4 inches.  Endemic to Hawaii.

SAND ANEMONE

Rare except in Kaneohe and Ma'alaea Bay.  Inhabits sand flats and attains 12 inches but usually much less.  Sometimes accompanied by commensal shrimp and juvenile Hawaiian Dascyllus.  Hawaii, East Indian Ocean & the Tropical Pacific.

GHOST TUBE ANEMONE

Inhabits tubes in sandy areas at any depth.  Easily observed at night when banded tentacles are extended.  A large colony inhabits the turning basin at Makai Pier, Oahu.  Crown diameter up to 1.5 inches.  Hawaii & the Tropical Pacific.
