Common in wet forests of the Main Hawaiian Islands.  Long strap-like leaves lacking midrib, spikelets with 3 - 6 flowers, the endemic Machaerina mariscoides subsp. meyenii with a single flower.  Hawaii, New Guinea & the Society Islands.
