BALDWIN'S RAZORFISH         laenihi

Uncommon over sand deeper than 60 feet.  Pale gray with a white patch behind the pectoral fin edged with yellow above and a black spot just below the dorsal fin.  Feeds upon invertebrates and dives into the sand when threatened.  Attains 10 inches.  Spotty distribution includes Hawai'i, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea.  Formerly known as Hemipteronotus baldwini.
