Fairly common on sandy reefs from 25 to 300 feet,
especially during summer months. Has a streamlined greenish-gray
body, a blunt head with a groove ahead of the eye, and dark dorsal fin membranes.
Feeds upon fish and crustaceans. An excellent food fish with pink
flesh reputed to have more flavor than any other deepwater
snapper. Attains 40 inches and 37 pounds. East Africa to
Japan, Hawai'i, and French Polynesia. |
