CHEEKSPOT SCORPIONFISH

Rare around the Main Hawaiian Islands but locally common in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and Japan.  Greenish or reddish brown with red eyes and a dark spot on the gill cover.  Attains 4 inches.  Scattered subtropical localities including South Africa, Japan, Hawaii, New Zealand, and the Marquesas.  Formerly known as Scorpaenodes littoralis.
