Rare on rocky outcrops from 200 to 400 feet around the Main Hawaiian Islands but as shallow as 80 feet at Midway Atoll.  Compressed with a strongly protruding snout, reddish-brown with blue spots.  Attains 8 inches.  Restricted to Hawai‘i and Japan's Kii Peninsula.
