Mitrella loyaltyensis
LOYALTY ISLANDS' DOVE SHELL
| Uncommon under rocks and rubble at
any depth. Tall and glossy, nine nearly flat whorls, body whorl
transition to base a blunt corner, ivory with fine mesh of reddish-brown
lines, spiral of irregular white markings at the suture and periphery of
body whorl, base white with curved brown lines. Attains
0.4 inch, 9 mm. New Caledonia to Hawaii and the Society Islands.
Formerly lumped within Mitrella pudica
as Mitrella fusiformis. |
