SHY DOVE SHELL
| Common under rocks and rubble in
shallow water. Solid and glossy, eight slightly convex whorls, suture
impressed, protoconch (when present) white, color and pattern extremely variable,
often with spirals of brown lines or white spots
above and below the suture,
and secondary flame-like, or net-like pattern, base unmarked. Attains
0.4 inch, 10 mm. Queensland, Vanuatu, and Hawaii. Formerly
known as Mitrella fusiformis, however in
WORMS, M. fusiformis
is a synonym of Mitrella nympha.
In my opinion M. fusiformis is a synonym of Mitrella pudica,
and all similar forms of Mitrella should be treated as a species
complex. |
