Common among sand and rubble at any depth.  Numerous brown spots on dorsal surface, white blotch on caudal fin, anal fin rays unmarked, males with large eye spot above gill opening.  Attains 7 inches.  Maldives to Japan and Pitcairn, excluding Hawaii.
