Family Pinguipedidae

Sandperches

Slender benthic carnivores that prop themselves up using pelvic fins as they wait for small prey to pass by.  Only one Hawaiian species is found at diving depths.  They differ from Lizardfishes in having two dorsal fins and small mouths.
