VARIABLE WORM SHELL KIO PO‘APO‘AI
| Common on hard surfaces at any depth. Brown shell crossed by strong
spirals & ribs. Animal color variable, the only Hawaiian species lacking an operculum.
The shell aperture is extremly sharp and inflict deep puncture wounds to
bare feet. Aperture diameter of 0.3 inch, 8 mm,
length of 2
inches, 50 mm. Occurs in the Hawaiian, Line, and Marshall Islands. Formerly known
as Serpulorbis variabilis. |
