DISTANTLY-LINED CONE
| Locally common on hard reefs in the surf zone to 25 feet.
Slightly constricted sides
and coronated spire with brown interspaces, body whorl yellowish-brown with
darker flammules and white spiral bands, obsolete spiral grooves toward
the base, and white aperture with a purple edge, thick periostracum with spiral tufts.
Young shells have attractive patterns while old shells tend to be pale and
rough. The animal is tan or brown.
Attains 5.4 inches, 137 mm.
South Africa to Japan, Hawaii, and the Society Islands. |
