HAWAII - CULTIVATED

Talipariti sp.

Cultivated, Waimanalo, Oahu

UNIDENTIFIED HAU

Shrub grown from seed collected at UH Manoa growout facility.  Potted plant incorrectly labeled as Lebronnecia kokioides.  Either an unusual form of Talipariti tiliaceus or related species.  Leaves stiff & entirely glabrous, 10cm long, new leaves light green, large oval bracts at leaf axils, petals 2.5 inches long, corolla opening halfway, fading red.  Apparently self-incompatible, pollination attempts fail to produce seed.
