DWARF NAUPAKA

Prostrate perennial of consolidated coastal dunes.  Succulent leaves 1 - 2 inches long.  Formerly found on the main islands but nearly extinct due to habitat alteration or loss.  Federally Endangered.

Wa'ahila ridge, Oahu

NAUPAKA KUAHIWI

Large shrub of mesic or wet ridges, & valleys of Kaua'i, O'ahu & Moloka'i.  Leaves lacking hairs on the underside, flowers white.  Scaevola mollis has leaves with underside coated by dense hairs & purple flowers.  Endemic to Hawaii.  Replaced by Scaevola chamissoniana on Maui & Hawaii.

Small shrub on dry ridges & open forest of the Main Hawaiian Islands.  Flowers orange-brown or pink.  Endemic to Hawaii.

Small shrub uncommon on old lava flows & dry forest of Kilauea & southern slopes of Mauna Loa.  Stiff leaves.  Endemic to Hawaii.
