BLACKSIDE RAZORFISH         LAENIHI

Rare over sand at scuba depth.  Pale gray with a single dark patch behind the pectoral fin.  Very similar to Iniistius celebicus.  Feeds upon invertebrates and dives into the sand when threatened.  Attains 9 inches.  Endemic to Hawai'i.  Formerly known as Hemipteronotus umbrilatus.
