BIRD WRASSE    hīnālea 'akilolo (F)    hīnālea 'i'iwi (M)

Fairly common on shallow reefs.  Females in transition range from reddish-brown to emerald green.  Feeds upon invertebrates.  Attains 12 inches.  Hawai'i and the Indo-Pacific.  Males were formerly known as Gomphosus tricolor.
