Snapper-like fishes of deep reefs which have small scales and highly extendible jaws.  They feed upon large zooplankton.  Occasionally landed by the deep bottomfish fishery.

GOLDEN ROVER or KALEKALE    Hawaii-chibiki

Rare around the island of Hawai'i at depths of 300 to 800 feet.  Slender orange body with a pointed snout, granular teeth, large eyes, and yellow fins.  Attains 15 inches and 2 pounds.  Okinawa to Hawaii, and the Society Islands.
