A skittish solitary fish uncommon along dropoffs at scuba
depths where it tends to cruise high above the reef. Steel gray or dark brown with a yellow
spot on forehead during
courtship. Should not be eaten since it often causes ciguatera poisoning.
The Hawaiian name means big mouth. Attains 15 inches.
East Africa to Japan, Hawai'i, French Polynesia, and Cocos Island. |
