Sandperches

Small fishes that perch themselves on the bottom and wait for small animals.  Only one species is found in diving depths here.  They are different from Lizardfishes in having two dorsal fins.

REDSPOTTED SANDPERCH

Common on rubble in deeper water.  Feeds upon small invertebrates.  A curious fish that will approach divers.  Attains 6 inches.  Indo-Pacific including Hawaii.


INDO-PACIFIC

Parapercis hexophtalma

Female, Wakatobi, Indonesia, 40 feet

SPECKLED SANDPERCH

Common on sand & rubble.  Attains 10 inches.  Males have orange diagonal lines on cheek.  Red Sea to Okinawa and Fiji.
