Locally common in shallow sandy areas exposed to
breaking waves. An excellent food fish formerly reserved for
royalty, moi are now raised in backyard ponds and offshore cages. Attains 24 inches and 9.5 pounds but
most observed in the wild are less than half that size.
Mauritius to Ogasawara, Hawaii, and Pitcairn.
