Fairly common on rocky reefs of
Japan where it is a popular sport and food fish, it is uncommon in the
Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Charcoal gray with lighter bars
gradually disappearing with age, face of large fish becoming
black. Rarely hybridizes with
the Spotted Knifejaw. Attains at least 15 inches. Japan, Korea, Taiwan
and Hawai'i. |
