Locally common schooling fish of estuaries and coastal waters from Santa Cruz Island, CA south to Peru.  Waifs are occasionally spotted in Hawaii.  Body streamlined with prominent black spot on the upper 1/3 of the gill cover.  Attains 22 inches.  Formerly known as Carangoides caballus.
