This uncommon blenny mimics the
Bluestripe cleaner wrasse
as a protective measure, and in times of need, feeds by pretending to
clean unwary fishes by taking bits of fin, skin, mucus, and scales.
It normally feeds upon fish eggs,
tube worm
gills,
Tridacna clam mantles, and zooplankton. The lower law is
underslung, and the dorsal fin begins just posterior to the eye. Attains
4.5 inches.
Red Sea to Japan, and French Polynesia, excluding Hawai'i. |
