GREAT STAGHORN CORAL
Common on shallow
reefs where it forms large bushes. Thick horizontal or vertical
cylindrical branches of varying length depending on wave exposure, large
tubular radial corallites with flaring lips, those near branch ends the
same size as axial corallites and easily broken. Rich brown with
pale branch tips. Indo-Pacific excluding Hawaii. All
coral skeletons illustrated are from scientific collections taken prior
to 1998. |
