PITTED PORITES

Locally common on shallow reefs.  Encrusting plates with some twisted branches with a pitted appearance, shallow calices 1.5mm in diameter with 6 pali between rounded or sharp ridges.  Pale brown, green, gray, or pink.  Porites vaughani is also plate-like but calices have 8 pali, while Porites rus has calices smaller than 1mm.  Sri Lanka to Okinawa and east to Samoa.
