Family Leptastreidae

Crater Corals are encrusting or massive with medium-sized hexagonal calices that have strong septal walls.  They are common in most shallow environments and Leptastrea purpurea is extremely tolerant of stressful conditions fatal to other corals.  Formerly part of the Family Faviidae.

All coral skeletons illustrated are from scientific collections taken prior to 1998.
