Rare from deep water in the Main Hawaiian Islands, it is frequently observed at the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands either dead or hermit crabbed.  Attains 8 inches, 205 mm.  Endemic to Hawaii.  Related to and formerly recorded in Hawaii as the Indo-Pacific Tonna melanostoma.
