COMMON MOON SNAIL

Common in sand in shallow water, often containing hermit crabs.  The shell color is variable, with a dark red interior and hard white operculum.  Attains 1.2 inches, 30 mm.  Red Sea to Japan, Hawaii, and French Polynesia.  Formerly known as Natica gualteriana.
