LEOPARD CONE

| Locally common on sand next to hard
bottom at any depth. The thick periostracum is often overgrown with
algae. The shape and density of black rectangles changes with age,
sometimes nealy absent. The columella is straight, not concave, and
the base is always white. Attains 8.8 inches, 222 mm.
East Africa to Okinawa, Hawaii, and the Society Islands. |
