CUMING'S MUSSEL

Common under stones or in algal mat to 100 feet.  Slipper shaped, green, yellow, red, or brown.  Shell covered by thin hairy periostracum.  Attains 3/4 inch.  Red Sea to Hawaii and the Gambier Islands.  Formerly known as Septifer bryanae.
