BLUE-LINED LONG-SPINE URCHIN
Locally abundant on reefs with good
water circulation. Spines black in adults, juveniles tend to be a mixture
of unbanded white and brown spines, always with neon blue lines. Test attains 3 inches, spines 8 inches.
Thin venomous spines protected by thicker primary
spines. Red Sea to Okinawa and Easter Island. It appears to be
an accidental introduction to Hawaii after the 1990's. |
