PAINTED HERMIT CRAB

Common in shallow water exposed to wave action.  Attains 3/4 inch.  Tends to be more aggressive than other members of the genus.  Endemic to Hawaii.  Formerly known in Hawaii as the Indo-Pacific Calcinus elegans.
