Family
Gesneriaceae
African Violet Family
| In Hawaii this family prefers shady wet valleys or bogs, and is represented by at least 53
endemic 'species' of Cyrtandra,
or Ha'iwale, many of which exist in a single or a few
contiguous valleys. A number of 'species' are very plastic and
undoubdtedly the result of gradual differentiation and hybridization where
distinct forms overlap in range. Identifications are tentative. |
