Herbaceous tree cultivated and naturalized in moist disturbed areas of Hawaii.  Numerous cultivars.  An important export crop.  Sexes separate, male flowers borne singly or in clusters.   Native to Mexico, Central & South America and cultivated in warm climates around the world.
