STOUT MORAY
puhi Waka utsubo
Common on shallow reefs
where it feeds upon small fish and invertebrates. Snout tapering,
jaws with a slight gape, color extremely variable. Base color
cream to rusty brown with few to many irregular tan to dark brown spots
which may be arranged into rows of repeating blotches or bars. The
gill opening is not surrounded by dark pigment. Attains 2 feet.
Anti-tropical from South Africa to Japan, Hawaii, New Zealand, Costa Rica,
and Chile. |
