LONGFIN BIGEYE

Widespread but rarely captured in Hawaii by handline.  Inhabits deep ledges from 200 to 800 feet.  Pectoral fins equal to head depth, last membrane attached to belly, median fin membranes dark.  (Pectoral membranes torn in this photo.)  Attains 24 inches.  Worldwide in warm and temperate seas.  Misidentified in old texts as Cookeolus boops, which is a synonym of Heteropriacanthus cruentatus.
