STUDER'S
CORAL
Uncommon in shallow
water exposed to surge. Forms thick knobby clumps or spreading sheets with
thick margins. Tiny calices are immersed in deep grooves separated by short irregular ridges.
White with orange-brown grooves or tan with white edges.
Study is needed to determine whether or not this is a local form of Montipora incrassata.
Endemic to Hawai'i.
All
coral skeletons illustrated are from scientific collections taken prior
to 1998.
