RIGID CACTUS CORAL

Uncommon on shallow reefs exposed to wave action.  Massive or domed, with contorted pits containing one or a few corallites surrounded by fleshy ridges with coarse ribs, divided by a narrow groove, greenish-brown with contrasting valleys.  Bahamas, Florida, Gulf of Mexico to Venezuela.
