 FRIED-EGG SLUG

Common at scuba depths.  Attains at least 4 inches.  Has toxic mucus to avoid predation by fishes.  Hawaii & the Indo-Pacific.

Found on reefs from 30 to 60 feet.  Only reported from Kaua'i to Maui.  Attains 1 inch.

Uncommon under ledges at scuba depths.  Attains 1 inch.  Hawaii & the Western Pacific.

Uncommon on ledges at scuba depths.  Attains 1.5 inch.  Spotty distribution includes Hawaii, the Society Islands, Marshall Islands, & the Western Indian Ocean.

Common at scuba depths.  Pink pustules are quite smooth.  Attains 3 inches.  Hawaii & the Indo-Pacific.

POLKADOT SLUG

Uncommon on reefs.  Attains 1 inch.  Thailand to Hawaii.

SCOTT JOHNSON'S SLUG

The most common slug outside Midway's barrier reef, rare elsewhere.  Attains 1 inch.  Black pustules are elevated.  Hawaii, Japan & Northern Australia.

 

Phyllidiopsis loricata

Sharks Cove, Oahu, 20 feet

 

First recorded from Hawaii in cave at Sharks Cove, Oahu, 2004.  Attains 1 inch.  Feeds on cream colored sponge Leiodermatium sp..  Black spots are not raised.  Hawaii & the Indo-Pacific.

Common on reef slopes.  Black 'Y' between rhinophores.  Attains 2.5 inches.  Indo-Pacific.

 


INDIAN OCEAN

Occurs on reefs of the Red Sea & Indian Ocean.  Attains 2 inches.
