Goniobranchus aureopurpureus

Atypical colors, Raja Ampat, Indonesia, 10 feet


Occurs on shallow reefs.  Typical specimens have a margin of blue dots (continuous in the animal shown) along with a series of large blue ocelli (eye-spots) inboard of the margin.  Dorsum reddish-brown with white warts and yellow spots (lacking above), rhinophores and gills reddish-brown edged with white.  Attains 1.75 inches.  Australia north to Japan, east to New Caledonia.
