CORRUGATED TOP SHELL

Common under rocks in shallow water from Kure to Kauai, and rare to the south.  Conical, with five barely convex whorls and grooved suture, spiral cords with grooves of equal diameter are beaded by diagonal axial threads of lesser diameter, columella smooth with a basal tooth, aperture pearly, operculum orange-brown.  Glossy shades of brown or green with red or brown splashes.  Worn shells are white with red spots.  Attains 0.2 inch, 4mm.  Marianas to Hawaii and southern French Polynesia.  Formerly known within Family Trochidae as Euchelus corrugatus.
