SIMI'S MOON SNAIL
| Uncommon in sand at any depth. Shell light, with a variable
spirals of reddish brown flammules, an open umbilicus with some brown on
the columella, and thin red operculum. Attains 1.6 inches, 40 mm. Red Sea to Hawaii and the
Society Islands. Formerly known as Polinices simiae.
Polinices melanostomus has more brown on the columella, and the
umbilicus is partially covered by parietal callous. |
