ARMORED DRUPE or DYE SHELL

Common in crevices in the surf zone.  Shell thick, heavily encrusted with coralline algae, aperture pale orange.  Shape of spines and color varies across the range.  Attains 4 inches, 106mm.  Red Sea to Hawaii and French Polynesia.  Formerly known as Thais armigera and Reishia armigera.
