CHECKERED COWRY

Rare under dead coral or within crevices deeper than 20 feet.  An iconic species prized by collectors.  The number and arrangement of brown squares varies, and juveniles lack squares altogether.  Attains 2.1 inches, 55 mm.  Endemic Hawaiian subspecies.  Formerly known as Cypraea tessellata.
