Flotsam, Makapu'u, Oahu

CALIFORNIA SPINY or NUTTALL'S CHITON 

Common on rocks among mussels and barnacles in the intertidal zone.  Valves narrow, girdle coarse with tufts of short spines.  Attains 2 inches.  Puget Sound to Northern Baja California.  Specimens from Makapu'u washed ashore attached to floating debris on 2/14/2013.
