Uncommon in shaded areas with good water circulation.  Black, sometimes with five white dots on top, never blue lines present on Diadema savignyi.  Test attains 3 inches, spines 12 inches.  Short venomous spines protected by long primary spines.  Juvenile fish may take refuge among the spines.  Hawaii & the Tropical Pacific.
