Large coastal tree with rough flaky bark and dry spherical fruit.  Brought to Hawaii by early Polynesians for wood & medicinal use.  Native from East Africa to the Tuamotus.

Ornamental tree or epiphyte with thick leaves and attractive fruit capsules.  Permanent writing on leaves possible with a sharp implement.  Sparingly naturalized in disturbed lowlands.  Native to Florida & the Caribbean.
