Razorfishes have high foreheads
and are compressed vertically. They feed upon crustaceans and mollusks in sand or
rubble. They have the curious habit of diving into the sand for protection and are
difficult to approach. Known locally as Nabeta.

at scuba depths. Juveniles are common during summer. Juveniles banded with dark brown, adults gray with large
white patch on side and 3 dorsal spots. Males have yellow patch behind pectoral fins, dark in
females. Reaches 8 inches. Central & Western Pacific.
